Stars power public safety campaign

Three players feature in a series of advertisements promoting children to ‘Look up for power lines’ when playing outside.

Counties Power Chief Executive Judy Nicholl says the company is excited to be working with their local netball stars, who they sponsor in the ANZ Premiership.

“There’s a wonderful fit with our partners the Northern Stars who as netballers constantly ‘look up’. These players are fantastic role models for our local children so we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with them to raise awareness of the dangers of overhead lines for children when at play outside. Our aim for this campaign is to encourage caregivers to have the conversation with their children about safe playing areas and to be aware of power lines and electrical equipment.”

The campaign features a series of advertisements showing the netballers at play with a drone, kite, on a trampoline, with a netball and hoola hoops.  Anything that can make contact with power lines can prove to be a danger.

Northern Stars players Paula Griffin, Olivia Coughlan and Holly Fowler took part in the campaign, shot by local Pukekohe photographer Terese Gillard at Tarsha Mehrtens Photography.

Ms Griffin says taking part in the campaign was a change to her usual days of training and studying.

“It was certainly a different experience participating in the photo shoot.  I’d never really thought about power lines before and the dangers they can pose for children if they don’t keep clear of them. As a Northern Stars player I’m really pleased that through this campaign we can help to keep our local children safe.”
