Partnership with Surf Life Saving Kariaotahi commences

Surf Life Saving Kariaotahi is a volunteer-run affiliate of Surf Life Saving Northern Region. They are part of the overall family of Surf Life Saving New Zealand.

They provide volunteer surf rescue services on weekends and public holidays, from Labour Weekend to the end of the Easter school holidays. A 24/7 call-out service also exists throughout the year.

Partnering with Surf Life Saving Kariaotahi is a natural fit for us. Our strong emergency service portfolio includes existing water safety partnerships with Waiuku Coastguard and Sunset Beach Lifeguard Service.

We’re excited to partner with Surf Life Saving Kariaotahi this year as a Black Sand Gold sponsor of the Surf Life Saving Kariaotahi building project. We are also the naming rights sponsor of the Counties Energy Kariaotahi SAR Squad.

Surf Life Saving Kariaotahi is seeking further support
The essential service has an urgent issue that the media reported on just this weekend. The club seeks help from the community and businesses to fast-track facility upgrades. The building they currently rely on to save lives won’t be able to do the job much longer. It’s coming up 50 years old and is almost uninhabitable.

If the upgrades are unable to take place, there is a very real concern that no lifeguards will be positioned at Kariaotahi. Read the full story here.

These legends always support and keep our community safe at one of New Zealand’s most dangerous beaches. In the last ten years, Surf Life Saving Kariaotahi has made 275 rescues, assisted more than 200 others, performed nearly 300 first-aid interventions, and conducted more than a hundred searches.

The club is two million dollars short of its $7.5 million goal to rebuild the clubrooms. Surf Life Saving Kariaotahi has set up a Givealittle page to help achieve its goal. If you are willing and in a position to donate or know of a business or a grant that could help – please help us support this amazing service.
