Counties Energy confirms storm response has concluded

Crew cutting trees

21 February 2023

Counties Energy has confirmed all customers on their network who suffered a power outage from Cyclone Gabrielle have now had power restored.

Over the course of the event Counties Energy crews restored power to 12,500 customers and worked on more than 1,000 individual faults  – accounting for nearly one quarter of the company’s network.

Counties Energy General Manager Network Operations Dale Carline would like to thank the region for their support and understanding during this time.

“It’s humbling to know we have the support of our community while our crews worked in very trying conditions.  The majority of our work involved complex re-builds, difficult weather conditions and challenges getting to sites due to road damage and slips. The understanding and patience of our customers was incredible as our crews worked to restore power as quickly and safely as they could.”

The company is pleased to send their crews to assist in restoring power in Northland and Auckland, supporting Northpower and Vector who have been extremely affected by Cyclone Gabrielle.

This is a timely reminder for all property owners in the region to maintain their trees near powerlines as the majority of faults were caused by tree damage.  To learn more about tree owner responsibilities visit www.countiesenergy.co.nz/trees

The company would like to remind customers if they see a downed line to stay well clear (at least a bus length away) and call Counties Energy immediately on 0800 100 202.
