Public EV Charging

To support the uptake of EVs across our region, Counties Energy has invested in seven public chargers since 2019. Our EV customers across the Franklin region were able to charge for free in the first three years as part of our commitment to encourage EV uptake.

Counties Energy Public EV Chargers

With the uptake of EVs increasing and our public charges being well used, a competitive pricing structure was established in October 2022. Like other charge point owners, we’ve been reviewing pricing in the rapidly changing EV market. We’ve seen other charge point owners remove the per minute charge and implement only the per kWh charge. To this end, we’re streamlining our pricing to align more closely with the rest of market.

As of 2 October 2023, the pricing structure of the following public chargers owned by Counties Energy are as follows:

EV CHARGING STATIONS – TERMS OF USE

Counties Energy Limited (CEL) owns EV charging stations (Charging Stations), which can be accessed through the OpenLoop app.  These terms of use (Terms) apply to all users of CEL’s Charging Stations.

By using a Charging Station, you agree to these Terms.

Accessing and using a Charging Station

You must comply with all instructions set out on any signage at the relevant Charging Station.

You agree that you will not park your EV in a charging bay at a Charging Station for any purpose except for charging an EV that is compatible with the Charging Station.

You must ensure that the charging cable is safely plugged into your EV in accordance with your EV manufacturer’s instructions, and that your use of the charging cable does not create any risk to the health and safety of other people at the Charging Station or nearby.  You agree that you will not use any charging cable that is, or appears to be, damaged, faulty, or altered in any way.

You agree that, after your EV has finished charging, you will safely disconnect your EV from the Charging Station.  If you do not promptly remove your EV from the Charging Station after your EV has finished charging, you acknowledge that you may incur an overstaying charge.

Any issues with accessing or using a Charging Station should be notified to CEL by calling our EV charging helpdesk on 0800 6736 5667 or emailing support@openloop.co.nz

CEL’s liability to you

CEL does not guarantee that any Charging Station will always be available for use or free from faults, even if the OpenLoop app shows the Charging Station is available.

Without limiting any of your rights or CEL’s obligations under any law, CEL will not be liable to you for any loss or damage to your EV or any of your other property when using a Charging Station (including due to energy surges), except for direct losses or damage to your physical property that are suffered by you due to CEL’s negligence.

To the extent permitted by law, CEL’s total liability to you in relation to your use of a Charging Station is limited to $500, regardless of the legal basis of any such liability.

You agree to indemnify CEL in respect of any loss or damage suffered or incurred by CEL as a result of your breach of these Terms or your use of a Charging Station.

Tell us about your EV Experience

At Counties Energy, we’re committed to understanding our customers better, including those who drive electric vehicles (EVs). We recognise that EV drivers have unique needs and experiences, and we’re dedicated to serving them effectively.

To achieve this, we’ve developed an EV survey that focuses on EV drivers, their journeys and their charging behaviour. By gathering valuable insights into customers’ experiences, challenges, and pain points, we can work on tailoring future services to better meet their needs.
