Improving the Reliability of Power Supply in Princes Street West and Helvetia Road
As owner of your local electricity distribution network, Counties Energy is responsible for maintaining network equipment across our region. We proactively manage the reliability of power for over 49,000 customers on our network.
Starting in early 2025, the work will take place along Princes Street West and Helvetia Road Monday to Friday from 7am until 5pm. This work is to improve the reliability of power supply in the area through a network upgrade.
What to Expect
This work will take place along the roads shown on the map below.
To lay new cables underground, we will be using a variety of machinery including horizontal drilling machines and excavators. Hydrovac trucks will also help us to identify the position of other utility cables such as fibre cables to avoid hitting these.
New equipment will also be installed, after which old equipment (e.g. power poles) will be removed at the end of this project.
Planned Outages
For us to carry out this network upgrade safely, there will be some planned outages during the duration of this project. Customers affected will be sent separate planned outage notifications.

Traffic management will be on site along the affected roads to keep our crews safe and for traffic to flow as smoothly as possible.
