Fun at the local inter-school engineering challenge
Counties Energy is a proud supporter of the STEM-focused EPro8 Challenge – an inter-school science and engineering competition that sees students in Years 5 – 13 representing their school in teams for the title of EPro8 Challenge Champion.
The event’s challenges incorporate science, electronics, engineering, mathematics, problem solving, and teamwork, and each competing team must work with an assortment of easy-to-use equipment, including gears, wheels, pulleys, joiners, nuts and bolts, tools, aluminum framing, motors, and electronics.
This year more than 200 students from 11 schools within our community participated in the event, performing tasks ranging from building a pendulum clock, a motorised car wash frame, an electricity-powered rat wheel to an automated lightning rod.
Congratulations to Pukekohe Christian School, who took the top spot in the Year 5-6 category, closely followed by Valley Primary School and Ararimu School.
In the Year 7-8 division, Karaka School and Ararimu tied for first place, followed by Waikaretu School.
It was fantastic to see our youth in action representing their schools and getting a taste for STEM fields.
