Counties Energy awards environmental and sustainability grant to Y Camp Adair’s Planting Day

As part of its annual Environmental and Sustainability Grant, we proudly selected Y Camp Adair’s proposal to hold a Planting Day aimed at reestablishing the native environment to encourage biodiversity. Y Camp Adair holds generations of cherished memories for those who have attended camp in this wholesome learning environment.

The planting day consisted of a team of Counties Energy employees, Y Camp Adair representatives, alongside teachers and pupils from Mangatawhiri School, who planted native seedlings grown by the students throughout the year. Among the chosen species were ti kouka (cabbage tree), manuka and kanuka, and mahoe, each a testament to Aotearoa New Zealand’s rich ecological tapestry. The students worked diligently, demonstrating the significant impact of engaging young people in sustainability efforts and promoting awareness of environmental responsibility. Their eagerness to learn and contribute reflects a promising future for environmental conservation.

The Planting Day was a great experience for everyone involved. It was a practical lesson in ecology, as well as teamwork and reinforced the importance of caring for the environment. The Counties Energy Environmental and Sustainability Grant was established to assist not-for-profit community organisations or educational providers with projects that enhance or protect the environment in the southern Auckland and northern Waikato regions.

As part of Counties Energy’s commitment to sustainability, we continually seek to inspire and support community initiatives that foster appreciation and conservation of our natural surroundings. This grant is just one example of our effort to create a positive impact and encourage sustainable practices.

Looking ahead, Counties Energy is steadfast in its mission to cultivate positive change and nurture sustainable practices within our community.
