About Northern Stars | The Northern Stars has the honour of being netball’s latest top-level club with the franchise formed in 2017. The name was inspired by Matariki, the small cluster of stars which appear low on the northeast horizon just before dawn in mid-winter.  Also known as the Seven Sisters, Matariki’s appearance heralds the start of the Maori New Year. Based in South Auckland, one of the largest communities in New Zealand, where sport plays a vital role in the south and east of Auckland, both rapidly growing areas of New Zealand.
