Drivers urged to slow down on Whangarata Rd through work sites

Counties Power is urging caution to all drivers on Whangarata Road over the next couple of days while they complete works.

In particular, drivers heading westbound towards Tuakau from Pokeno should take particular care due to temporary plates on the road to cover excavations.  The site is just past Ewing Road.   Please follow all traffic management instructions in place and keep to the 30 km/h posted speed limit.

Counties Power General Manager Operations Dale Carline says the bad weather is hindering progress on the works and adds a further safety risk if drivers do not slow down.

“We’re asking drivers to please adhere to the 30 kilometre an hour speed limit through the site at all times.  The plates put in place over the road meet all New Zealand roading standards however with this wet weather the plates are particularly slippery.  Please pass this message on to other locals and those you know who may travel on Whangarata Road.”

This message comes just one week after the company has launched a public safety campaign with Counties Manukau Police raising awareness of slowing down through work sites.
