Counties Energy Delivers $13.3m Annual Discount to 49,000 customers

Counties Energy is pleased to announce that from today, 49,000 customers can view how much they will receive from the $13.3m annual discount posted by the company. The discount will appear as a credit on eligible customers’ December or January power bills issued by their energy retailer.

To qualify for the 2024 discount, customers must have been connected to the Counties Energy network on 1 November 2024. The discount is calculated on network charges paid over the period from 1 November 2023 to 31 October 2024. The discount reflects Counties Energy’s commitment to supporting the communities it serves while investing in the region’s energy future.

Counties Energy Chief Executive Judy Nicholl recently highlighted the company’s dedication as it celebrates its centenary year, a significant milestone for the company.

“As a 100 percent consumer-owned company, we’re proud to deliver another record discount to our customers, alongside substantial investments in our network and community programmes. This year alone, we’ve invested over $66 million in projects to strengthen our network, and implement new systems and technology to enhance our customer service, all supporting our rapidly growing region and a cleaner energy future.

“This centenary year marks a poignant time for us, and this announcement underscores our deep commitment to the community. It’s been a special opportunity to recognise the dedicated people who have kept the lights on for a century, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support we continue to receive from our community.”

Nicholl added that Counties Energy is committed to supporting sustainable and affordable energy. “Our investments are focused on delivering a safe, reliable network that not only supports customer needs today but is also prepared for the renewable energy systems and opportunities of tomorrow. We’re helping customers transition to low-carbon energy use, and we’re committed to initiatives in sustainability and energy hardship – key areas that reflect our company’s values. Our community partnerships support essential rescue services, education, community events and more.”

Counties Energy is owned by the Counties Energy Trust, which holds shares on behalf of electricity consumers.

Counties Energy Trust Chairperson Christine Rupp commended the Counties Energy team for their hard work and dedication in a year marked by significant achievements. “We’re incredibly proud of the record discount Counties Energy has provided to consumers this year along with substantial network investment. This year, we’ve also celebrated important milestones, including the launch of the Berm Battery and being honoured with two New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards, which recognises their commitment to innovation. These accomplishments reflect Counties Energy’s dedication to delivering robust and future-proofed energy solutions to our community.”
