Counties Energy Completes Major Eastern Network Renewal Programme
Counties Energy has successfully completed its Eastern Network Renewal programme, a transformative $40 million investment aimed at strengthening the reliability and resilience of the region’s electricity network.
This comprehensive programme included the construction of a new substation at Barber Road in Bombay, alongside the establishment of two direct connections between the Barber Road Substation and Transpower’s Bombay Grid Exit Point (GXP). Located at the top of Bombay Hill, these connections provide increased network stability and robustness for customers across the region.
Additionally, the programme included the realignment of a 110 kV line, the removal of 33 kV infrastructure, and the decommissioning of the retired Mangatawhiri and Ramarama substations.
Counties Energy Chief Customer and Operations Officer Dale Carline, acknowledges the patience and support of the local community during the project’s implementation.
“This was a large-scale project, and we sincerely thank the wider eastern community for their patience and understanding throughout the construction process. We are incredibly proud to deliver a future-proofed network that will support the region’s continued growth and provide a stable and resilient electricity supply for years to come.”
Counties Energy remains committed to investing in its electricity infrastructure, allocating over $50 million in capital expenditure last year alone. These investments span the entire network, encompassing a diverse range of projects including overhead-to-underground transitions, capacity upgrades, reliability enhancements and complex network developments. Significant growth in areas such as Pukekohe, Paerata, Drury, Ramarama, Karaka, Waiau Pa, Clarks Beach, Glenbrook and Pokeno is driving further investment in zone substations and network expansion projects.
The completion of the Eastern Network Renewal programme marks another milestone in Counties Energy’s ongoing commitment to ensuring a robust and modern electricity network for its community.
