Charging into the future

Paerata Rise and Pokeno residents and visitors can now charge their vehicles using Counties Power’s fast chargers. The new chargers are located at Rise ‘n Shine café in Paerata Rise and Market Street in Pokeno.

Counties Power General Manager Commercial Andrew Toop says the company is focussed on investing in new technology and sustainable energy.

As electric vehicle use grows exponentially we’re future-proofing our communities and ensuring we invest in infrastructure to support sustainable driving options that both reduce greenhouse emissions and the countries reliance on imported fossil fuel. We’re extremely lucky to work with proactive developers such as Grafton Downs at Paerata Rise and the Pokeno Community Committee that recognise the importance of electric power going forward.” — Andrew Toop, Counties Power General Manager Commercial

The Paerata Rise development is the largest housing development currently under construction in Auckland. Over the next 25 years the 4,500 homes will be built over the 300-hectare site.

“We are committed to developing a community that is welcoming and provides the modern necessities to all residents,” explains Executive Director of Paerata Rise, Chris Johnson. “Electric vehicles are increasing on our roads and we need to ensure modern infrastructure supports this for both visitors and residents”.

This brings the number of Counties Power’s public fast chargers to five, with existing stations at Tobin Lane in Pukekohe’s CBD, at the company’s Glasgow Rd, Pukekohe site and in Waiuku at the Waiuku Agriculture and Machinery Museum.

The chargers were installed with the help of a funding subsidy from the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority (EECA).
