Applications open for fourth round of Counties Energy Environmental and Sustainability Grants

Counties Energy is excited to announce that applications are now open for the fourth annual Counties Energy Environmental and Sustainability Grants. These grants reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to fostering sustainability and environmental stewardship within the local community.

With $10,000 available across three categories – Education, Environment and Cultural – the Grant’s aim is to support initiatives that make a tangible, positive impact in areas such as waste reduction, habitat improvement and emissions reduction.

Counties Energy General Manager Safety, Culture and Sustainability Tracey Kay expressed her enthusiasm for the programme. “The Counties Energy Environmental and Sustainability Grants allow us to partner with local groups making a real difference in our community. From reducing waste to restoring habitats and educating the next generation, these projects create long-lasting benefits for our environment and people. We’re proud to support these vital initiatives and encourage community groups and education providers to apply with innovative projects that align with these goals.”

The Environment category supports projects that improve the physical environment, such as pest control, planting, weed management, waste reduction, habitat restoration or emissions reduction. The Educational category focuses on initiatives that promote environmental education, including school programmes, community events or educational signage. The Cultural category funds efforts that enhance culturally significant sites or improve understanding of environmental topics through activities like stream planting, pest management or community events.

Previous recipients of the grants include organisations such as Āwhitu Peninsula Landcare, Trees for Survival Charitable Trust, Manukau Heads Lighthouse Trust and Tamaoho School. Their inspiring projects have ranged from pest control and planting initiatives to environmental education programmes.

Applications close on 3 March 2025.  For more information about the Counties Energy Environmental and Sustainability Grant and to submit an application, visit https://countiesenergy.co.nz/environmental-grant-2025/
