Counties Energy Supports Safe Digging Month

Counties Energy is proud to support Safe Digging Month this November by launching an important safety video today in collaboration with key industry participants, including BeforeUDig, Transpower, Aurora, Powerco, Vector and Wellington Electricity. This initiative aims to raise awareness around the critical importance of safe digging practices in preventing damage to underground utilities and ensuring community safety.

Every year, unsafe digging practices result in significant damage to essential infrastructure, leading to costly repairs, service interruptions, and, in some cases, life-threatening accidents. Through this video, Counties Energy and its partners hope to educate the public – whether they’re homeowners tackling backyard projects or contractors working on major infrastructure –  about the simple steps they can take to protect themselves and the wider community.

“At Counties Energy, safety is at the heart of everything we do. Partnering with other key industry players for Safe Digging Month allows us to promote life-saving safety practices and protect our communities from the risks posed by unsafe excavation,” says Counties Energy General Manager Operations, Dale Carline.

The video encourages everyone, from DIY enthusiasts to professional contractors, to submit a beforeUdig enquiry before beginning any excavation work. This free and easy-to-use service provides information on underground utilities, helping prevent damage and keep essential services – such as electricity, gas, and telecommunications – operational.

“We urge everyone to #KnowWhatsBelow and take the time to submit a beforeUdig enquiry before breaking ground,” says Dale Carline.  “It’s a small step that could make a huge difference in keeping people safe and avoiding costly and disruptive damage.”
