Counties Energy supports local environmental reestablishment project
Counties Energy is excited to announce its support for Y Camp Adair’s Tree Planting Day through the annual Counties Energy Environmental and Sustainability Grant. The grant assists not-for-profit community organisations and educational institutions with projects that enhance or protect the environment in the southern Auckland and northern Waikato regions.
Y Camp Adair was awarded the grant for their proposal to reestablish the native environment and restore biodiversity. Located in the Hunua Ranges, Y Camp Adair is a beloved part of the community, providing a wholesome learning environment for generations of children.
Counties Energy employees teamed up with Y Camp Adair representatives, teachers and pupils from Mangatawhiri School to plant native seedlings grown by the students throughout the year. They planted a variety of species, including the ti kouka, manuka, kanuka and mahoe, all representing New Zealand’s rich ecological tapestry. The students’ hard work and enthusiasm were truly commendable, demonstrating the positive impact of involving young people in sustainability efforts and raising awareness about environmental responsibility.
General Manager of Safety, Culture and Sustainability Tracey Kay says, “We are thrilled to support Y Camp Adair’s initiative. Seeing the dedication of the tamariki and our employees working together to enhance our local environment is inspiring. It’s projects like these that make a real difference in our community.”
The Planting Day was a practical lesson in ecology and teamwork, reinforcing the importance of caring for the environment. Counties Energy’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond this event.
“We look forward to future collaboration projects within our community that further our commitment to environmental stewardship, make a difference and preserve our beautiful landscape,” added Tracey Kay. Looking ahead, Counties Energy remains steadfast in its mission to cultivate positive change and nurture sustainable practices within its community.
